Hand rearing Yellow Thighed Caiques
Hand rearing African Greys
I am mostly breeding Caiques and Eclectus.
Caiques and Eclectus parrots make excellent pets in addition to being attractive aviculture subjects. However before you go out and buy one think very hard as to whether you are really prepared to buy a pet which will have a similar life span as a human. And yet often these pet parrots can remain extremely demanding throughout their lives . An alternative option may well be to adopt an already older parrot from a rescue centre.
Whilst most of us as breeders or pet owners are preoccupied with our own birds, we should spare a thought or even proactively support those wild parrots left in the wild. We should remember where our own birds originated from and how precarious is the existence of many parrots are today in the wild.
We are probably now on the brink of a mass extinction of many species of all animals and birds as a result of human exploitation of the wild life and the environment they live in. Organisations like WWF, Parrot Trust, and Birdlife International deserve the support of us who enjoy the pleasure and benifits of keeping these wonderful creatures.
http://www.birdlife.orgI am often asked for all sorts of pet parrots , but sadly I do not keep African Greys, Amazons, Conures or any other parrots not featured here.
