| Harlequin Specialist Parrot Breeders |
|
Harlequin parrot breeders web-site will hopefully act as a contact place for breeders of the less well known parrots. I have given special emphasis on sub-specie variations as with many species the natural colour regional variations within a specie is disappearing in captive bred collections due to hybridisation (crossing of the sub-species) in most cases accidentally. Perhaps also looking at the diversity of parrots may inspire other breeders to consider keeping parrot species and sub-species, which are fast disappearing from our captive bred collections. My personal interest is mainly with breeding the Caiques, Eclectus and some poicephalus species, but I hope that other specialist parrot breeders will wish to participate with making this site a valuable co-operative project. So that a network of contacts can be established with those having similar collections in order to exchange breeding stock. For this reason I have introduced a breeders directory and a advertising section dedicated to the species featured on the site. I would like to thank those breeders and pet owners who have kindly allowed me to use their photos and already offered support for the site. And I openly invite others to participate if they wish to share their photos with us or join in with the breeders directory. Some of the parrots highlighted here can also be suitable as pets in addition to being excellent aviculture subjects. So I hope this site can also be a source of interest for those with pet parrots. I have included a page on Pet Parrots and Nutrition and Health as a guide for the pet parrot keeper as much as for the breeder. Those seeking parrots for breeding stock or as pets can contact breeders directly in the Breeders Directory.
